Boise grew as a supply and service center for mining
camps in the nearby mountains. Today it is a commercial hub for small
towns and farming communities in the northern Rockies. In addition
to mining, farming and timber have contributed to Boise’s
economy. Today, high technology is a growing sector: Micron Technology makes
semiconductors in Boise, and Hewlett-Packard makes scanners and printers.
Now Boise has three major urban-renewal projects
underway, and immigration is strong due to Boise’s desirable climate, job opportunities, and quality
of life.
