Manchester, New Hampshire
Profile:
The future site of Manchester was first settled by Scots-Irish Presbyterians,
who eventually used the 85-foot Amoskeag Falls to power their textile
mills. The settlement, known originally as Old Harry’s Town,
changed its name to Tyngstown in 1735, then to Derryfield in 1751,
and finally to Manchester in 1810, after the English industrial city
that also specialized in textile-milling.
